The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines currently offers accident insurance up to PHP 100,000 to its staff members. During the World Teachers’ Day celebration, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte made this news. The insurance went into effect on October 5 and is obtained through the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS). It provides up to PHP 30,000 for medical expenditures resulting from accidents, wherever in the globe, whether or not they are related to work. It also covers accidental death or dismemberment.

Additionally, DepEd and GSIS are working together to develop supplemental health insurance for the medical requirements of teachers. Duterte underlined throughout the celebration his dedication to providing teachers with improved working conditions, resources, and opportunities for professional growth.

Additionally, DepEd and GSIS are collaborating to improve teacher services, which includes providing them with a special GSIS office lane. In an effort to shield educators from financial scams, DepEd is also creating a website offering free legal assistance and loan counseling. Furthermore, an automated system for transparent and equitable teacher recruiting and advancement is being established.
