The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Tuesday that public school teachers across the country who have not yet received their P5,000 cash assistance from the government can anticipate receiving it during the first week of classes.

According to DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa, the distribution of the one-time cash grant is almost complete in Metro Manila alone.

“We have already downloaded the funds to the schools division offices, who are going to get this? All public school teachers with at least one teaching load will be entitled to a ₱5,000 cash allowance for teachers. We started distributing the amount through the schools division office” Poa said.

Furthermore, he said, “Yesterday from NCR (National Capital Region), almost 100% na po ang nakakuha ng ₱5,000, kung meron mang di nakakakuha it’s up to the timing difference lang with the bank crediting.”

The cash allowance, according to the DepEd, was created to aid teachers in getting ready for the upcoming academic year.

Public schools have already received an additional maintenance and operating expense (MOOE) allocation of P3.7 billion to make sure they are well-equipped to implement health protocols, such as purchasing COVID-19-related items like face masks and alcohol, the department said.

The department will receive P710.6 billion of the proposed national budget of P5.268 trillion for 2023 this year. However, the organization is recommending a budgetary allocation of more than $800 billion to raise teaching and educational standards.

In order to meet the needs of the students, it is also considering building more classrooms, adding more desks and armchairs, and hiring more teachers.
