According to information provided by the regional office of the Department of Education (DepEd) on Saturday, more than 70 private schools in Western Visayas have closed as the new academic year began this week.

According to authorities, the closures were caused by a low enrollment rate as well as financial limitations.

According to Hernani Escullar, the regional information officer for DepEd Western Visayas, out of the 76 schools, 59 private schools closed temporarily while 17 closed permanently.
