Rep. Alfred delos Santos of the Ang Probinsyano Partylist filed a measure to raise public school teachers’ personal economic relief allowance (PERA).

Teachers’ PERA will be raised from P2,000 to P8,000 under House Bill 6239.

In his explanatory note, delos Santos remarked, “The State, through this increase, will be able to demonstrate its full commitment in enhancing and uplifting the living and working conditions of its employees, particularly in the field of education.”

According to Delos Santos, the government must ensure that education is given first priority when it comes to budgetary requirements.

He also stated that providing enough salary to teachers will aid in attracting and retaining top-tier educators.

The higher allowance will be funded through the General Appropriations Act, according to Delos Santos.

House Bill 6239 directs the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education, in collaboration with the Department of Budget and Management, to develop rules and regulations to implement the increase.
