In the midst of the controversy started by Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo’s remarks disparaging teachers, Education Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio praised the commitment of teachers.

Tulfo received criticism from the teachers for his remarks that he does not want teachers to be involved in the distribution of financial aid to students because they might favor some people.

Duterte-Carpio said, “Our public school teachers have always been models of professionalism, and their dedication and commitment to public service go beyond self-interest.”

Tulfo received criticism from the Alliance of Concerned Teachers for his “irresponsible” remarks.

Eh wala naman kaming kontrol sa mga programa na ‘yan kung sakali, we only facilitate and work based on the policies.”
